ABSTRACT

The strategic importance of vendor selection can potentially lead companies to venture into new markets. It is especially important for firms like Talaseti Telco, which are particularly sensitive in regard to cost and quality. It is critical that these companies place equal importance on the actual process of selection to enable them to take maximum advantage of this strategic tool. This case study is the story of one key project, examined from the project manager’s perspective and showcases the issues faced by the company, how it impacted multiple projects, and how the issues could have been resolved based on the framework proposed in this research. In retrospect, vendor selection is a complex topic that is related to a request for proposal (RFP), request for quotation (RFQ), negotiation, and selection. In this case study, however, we focus on the core aspect of the entire process, which is the set of criteria that determine evaluation and selection of projects. Three related case studies that are analysed with the objective of reviewing the criteria definition while undertaking a comparison and proposing a most relevant recommendation for Talaseti Telco.
