ABSTRACT

This chapter is intended to be a guide to developing a plan for conducting an economic impact analysis. The objective of the study discussed here is to estimate the effects (or impacts) of expenditures for wildlife-related activities on economic activity in Alaska. The issues, however, are more general than just wildlife-related activities in Alaska. The same process would be followed to design an economic impact analysis for any natural resource-based commodity or activity. Indeed, the economic principles considered and followed apply to any economic impact analysis. The chapter is written in the style of a flow chart/expanded outline. It attempts to follow a logical progression of how an analyst might go about structuring and performing an economic impact study, from exploring the existing literature, to data collection, to modeling and analysis, to interpreting and using the results.
