ABSTRACT

Control of the weather—increased precipitation, prescribed location and timing of its delivery, reduced incidence of hail, reduction of lightning fires in the forest, and even the control of frost and freezing—has been the dream of the agriculturist since the beginning of time. Micro-climate modification practices are not new to agriculture–in fact, they have been the basis of many of the increases in agricultural production capability. The agricultural sector has been and will continue to study a number of other micro-weather modifications. The development of special crop residue management and tillage systems to enhance infiltration can provide significant increases in soil moisture for row crop production. The one thrust deals with the future, the unpredictable, and the uncontrollable approaches that, through continuing diligent researches, may result in macro-weather modification practices having the necessary effectiveness and reliability for operational use.
