ABSTRACT

Pacific Asia is one of the most dynamic regions in the world. In the area of domestic societies, technological progress has created a trend of a deregulated economy and a less authoritarian polity. Pacific Asia is said to be one of the regions not much affected by the end of the Cold War. The United States has been downsizing its military presence in Pacific Asia, but not as drastically as it has done in Western Europe. The end of geography seems to affect Pacific Asia more than other regions. The fact is that the Pacific Asian region is less closed and institutionalized than other regions. Domestic societies are relatively stable in Pacific Asia. Despite the disappearance of communism in Europe, it lives on in Pacific Asia: in China, Vietnam, and North Korea. Pacific Asia, the most dynamic economic region of the world, is by definition vigorous and uncertain.
