ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a modeling system that has these features: the Commercial and Residential Energy Use and Emissions Simulation System, or CRESS. CRESS is a new model that has been under development since mid-1984. The CRESS model can generate energy projections by fuel type at the census-region and state level for the period 1980-2030. The Household Model of Energy (HOME) is an econometric model designed to make intermediate range forecasts of energy use in occupied residential structures. The Commercial Sector Energy Model (CSEM) is also an econometric model designed to make intermediate-range forecasts of commercial energy use by building category. The model also was estimated and operates at the four-region (censusregion) level. A key question in projections of residential and commercial energy use is the extent to which the models capture the trend toward energy conservation.
