ABSTRACT

Although the federal government failed to enact any health care reform legislation in 1994, the pace of change in much of the country has already sent shock waves through many schools of medicine. Those that are located in areas such as Minneapolis, Minnesota, southern California, or Worcester, Massachusetts, have felt the pressures of managed care and capitation for some time. The chapter reviews the plans and actions of the University of Colorado School of Medicine to position itself for survival. It discusses the impact of the changing health care environment on our educational, clinical, and research efforts and then consider some strategic issues.
