ABSTRACT
Doordarshan, the government-owned public service channel, is the harbinger of a television revolution in India. This chapter documents the inception and the initial journey of Doordarshan Kolkata since 1975 and the important role it played in preserving and furthering the sociocultural heritage of Bengal. It chronicles some stories of Bengal’s economic, political, social, and cultural transitions and development through the eyes of TV cameras.
