ABSTRACT

The entertainment industry in West Bengal, in lines with the developments across the country, is witnessing a 360-degree evolution. The shift from the analogue to digital medium is accelerating, and the trend is visible throughout the value chain—from content production to content use. This is expected to be further aided by the explosion of new devices and the advent of efficient delivery channels and content digitization, which are bound to influence the way people value and enjoy entertainment. As the Bengali film and television market consolidates its position, it still has miles to go. The inference of this chapter is that the Bengali entertainment industry, read film and television, badly needed originality in content. The technicalities and its treatment should be improved along with effective promotion and distribution channels and the honest initiative of the government and the people associated with the industry, then and only then, can the industry retrieve its lost glory.
