ABSTRACT

This chapter is a treatise that reflects on the role of context and process in meaningful creative placemaking. Cook references several examples from the international field of creative placemaking that provide illustrations of work that is deeply grounded in community engagement. Cook also offers specific examples of the process of building community collaboration and input systems for successful creative placemaking projects. At its heart, this chapter reflects on the value of listening well, engaging authentically, truth-telling, and intention at the inception of projects. From this place of connecting in community the design of creative placemaking initiatives are likely to have a lasting impact for participants and for the locale where the work is situated.
