ABSTRACT

The popularity of publications in the management of organizations reflects, among other things, the significant interest among management professionals in learning tactics for success that have worked for others. This interest is reflected in one of Peters’ (1987) 45 prescriptions for success: creative swiping—namely, “swipe ideas and adapt them to your own setting.” Management ideas and practices regarded as routine and successful in one organization can be copied and imported into another where they are viewed as an innovation to effect planned change.
