ABSTRACT

In 1998, when the researcher was originally introduced to facilities information systems and state reports, he perceived that by automating processes, such as converting floor plans to Computer Aided Design files, the university could report data to the state more accurately and efficiently. The original purpose of Logistical Tracking System (LTS©) was to improve facilities management and permit information in government reports to be utilized by Office of Strategic Planning and Analysis and the Controller’s Office. The development process of the software prompted other departments to view the potential of LTS to enhance effectiveness of certain operations. The biggest challenge faced with the development of LTS was discovering how to program for the Geographic Information Systems integration and the user interfaces. Finding personnel who could integrate these components successfully led to the second greatest challenge the project faced. No new employees, outside of student workers, were hired to complete LTS.
