ABSTRACT

The research in this chapter demonstrates how Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) support the decision-making process to resolve administrative issues at universities and colleges. While there is much discussion and research on using GIS in the academic context, there is very little discussion and use of GIS administratively in university and college administrations. In an ironic twist, universities and colleges renowned for teaching and performing cutting-edge research are usually far behind the curve in using technology for administrative purposes. This chapter will discuss how practitioners can use GIS technology to resolve administrative issues at colleges and universities. In effect, the research in this chapter will bridge the academic theories of using GIS, to actual usage by a practitioner on how GIS can be used to resolve difficult administrative issues and provide operational intelligence.
