ABSTRACT

Once manufacturers have one or two jobs filmed and the operators are allowed to view the recording(s), they will understand that the focus is on the operation rather than on the individual performing the operation and will recognize the value of the filming process and what it implies for future work In high-mix, low-volume plants and job shops, work is usually scheduled on the shop floor only in terms of customer priorities or dates. The benefit of associating a time with the work is that it enables a better understanding of the accuracy of the estimates. Observing and taking time measurements simultaneously is a difficult task and often requires observing the same operation more then once. In many low-volume plants, there may be thousands of part numbers, and it is nearly impossible to develop production times for every part number.
