ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book develops an analytical framework for assessing workforce planning in an emerging economy context. It also discusses innovative approaches to improving skills and productivity in the sector through building social partnerships, including public-private partnerships, and bringing in a wide range of stakeholder groups to professionalise the sector and support labour transitions out of the sector. The book examines the informal economy in Indonesia through the context of the supply chains in the banana industry. It also examines the linkage between the big five personality traits and entrepreneurship. The book explores the challenges Eastern Indonesian universities experience in their quest to attain world-class university status. It indicates that Indonesia is experiencing a significant mismatch between the demands of industry and the capabilities of graduate employees from educational institutions.
