ABSTRACT

In 2017, the 29th Summer Universiade was hosted from August 19 to 30 in Taipei City, Taiwan. Using this mega sporting event to conduct empirical research, this chapter also makes a comprehensive literature review about mega sporting events, impacts, issues, development of sporting event tourism, and impact management strategies. In total, 367 participants at the 2017 Universiade were recruited to answer questionnaires. The results showed that the major impacts of hosting the 2017 Universiade were an increase in Taipei’s reputation and an enhancement of Taipei’s ability to hold international events. The major benefits of watching the 2017 Universiade were supporting favorite teams and players, basking in reflected glory, excitement, and enjoying the live atmosphere.
