ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews sustainability in festival and event tourism management. It is understood that for both festivals and events, sustainability is an important issue for success, profitable operations and continuity. There are three main sustainability dimensions as economic, ecologic and lastly social/cultural dimensions and all of them are important for sound and long-lasting successful festivals and events organizations. It is clear that long-term scoped strategic planning involving all the components of sustainability dimensions with and multiple stakeholder participation is vital for successful results. Improvements in quality of life, increase in the repeat business, improved local economies, cultural and environmental protection are some of the benefits sustainable festival and events provide. Thus, the future of the sustainable festival and event tourism is very promising due to such benefits as: constant profits, cultural enrichment, resource efficiency, higher quality of life, better local economies, protected heritage, higher customer satisfaction, increased participant loyalty, cleaner environment and better work conditions.
