ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a full description of the high-level structure that all new and future Management System Standards will have to follow. Despite sharing common elements, International Standards Organization (ISO) Management System Standards come in many different shapes and structures, which can frequently cause confusion and difficulty at the implementation stage. As well as ISO 9001 for Quality Management Systems, ISO also publishes a whole host of other Management System Standards. This commonality requires less maintenance and audit resources, meaning that it can be changed more easily to meet evolving business needs. Risks affecting organisations can have consequences in terms of economic performance and professional reputation, as well as environmental, safety and societal outcomes. A gap analysis may also be referred to as a ‘needs analyses, ‘needs assessment’ or ‘need-gap analyses’. Gap analysis is more flexible than a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats analysis as gap analysis can be more quantitative or conceptual, using either Excel worksheets or flow charts.
