ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with a summary of the recent legal landscape in the U.S. for same-sex marriage, including implications of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. Following this review is a discussion of what is known about relationship dissolution in same-sex couples. Briefly discussed are risk and resiliency considerations. Finally, therapeutic considerations are presented, focusing on how the literature on divorce therapy applies to same-sex couples, with a clinical vignette.
