ABSTRACT

LGBTQ parents have been raising children forever and recently some have been out about it. An intersectional lens is important since, while queer is an umbrella that holds diverse individuals, the umbrella is too wide to include definitive statements about all families. Nevertheless, this chapter provides a summary of queer parents and outlines a family therapy model that is affirmative. Two detailed case examples are presented that create refuge, hold difficult dialogues, and nurture queerness as foundational principles.
