ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the use of online communities of practice to enable the development of academic practice and to facilitate the connections of academic staff to each other and the institution. It highlights how crucial this has been during the Covid-19 pandemic. It presents a case study which shares the experiences of Transnational Education staff on how online communities of practice assisted their assimilation into an academic community encouraging their identity development. A second case evidences how online communities of practice in online modules for academic practice foster the participants’ sense of belonging to the institution.
