ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the impetus, need, important literature, and significance of the edited volume. More specifically, Chicana and Latina faculty, administrators, and a former president share their narratives of resistance and persistence in successfully navigating the tenure and promotion process. Each chapter offers a first-person narrative or composite narratives of survival in the academy employing critical and asset-based theoretical contributions and qualitative research. Authors conclude with important implications for policy and practice. This chapter concludes with a description of how the book is organized and highlights the key themes in each of the subsequent chapters.
