ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how clinicians can infuse African-centered treatment approaches with evidence-based practice to address recovery among sexual assault survivors. The authors provide a detailed review of evidence-based practices followed by culturally informed modalities that address multiple concerns that African-American victims may experience. Mental health professionals will appreciate specific guidance in addressing the emotional aftermath of sexual assault that may include guilt related to police involvement, body shame, traumatic sexualization, sexual stereotyping, and stigma.
