ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the meaning and significance of fiqh, its distinguishing features, and how it can be introduced to students in ways that enhance their knowledge and confidence in it. It will explain the reasons for differences in jurisprudential views, and briefly discuss fiqh for minority Muslim communities. Through an analysis of four curriculum frameworks, and an understanding of student voice, this chapter will propose a Learner Responsive Fiqh (LRF) model, which may aspire to guide educators on key questions about fiqh that are not being addressed, and how they can be.
