ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides a foundation for further discussions on various aspects of sustainability and sustainable development research in the Arctic. It focuses on specific and applied elements of Arctic sustainability, including urban and environmental sustainability, Indigenous perspectives on sustainability in Arctic communities, and monitoring for sustainability. The book addresses Arctic cities and associated movements and ideas about sustainability for them. Advancements, knowledge gaps, and future priorities are addressed in addition to theoretical and methodological approaches. The book addresses Indigenous visions of sustainability and sustainable development and Indigenous knowledge engagement in sustainability research. Core principles of sustainability from Indigenous perspectives will outlines challenges to indigenous sustainability and explain the role of Indigenous knowledge and scholarship in sustainable development solutions in the Arctic.
