ABSTRACT
Climate justice advocates focus on the disproportionate impacts of climate disruptions on the world’s most vulnerable populations and highlight the voices of people organizing to respond to climate impacts, as well as to the continued extraction of fossil fuels, forests, and other resources. This collection assembles the voices of people from nearly every continent who live, work, and research on the front lines of climate resistance, as well as the creation of community-centered alternatives. The Introduction examines the many contributions of a climate justice outlook to the wider climate movement, outlines research on the economic sectors most responsible for excessive greenhouse gas emissions, and discusses how a convergence of local civil society initiatives throughout the world may help advance systemic social change. The Introduction also reviews the book’s fifteen contributed chapters, and how they offer a unique profile of current efforts toward climate justice and community renewal around the world.
