ABSTRACT

When is an agent-based model study useful for criminological theory testing and theory development? This chapter formulates a set of demands with which a research enterprise using agent-based modeling should comply in order to be able to make a contribution to theory testing and development. It introduces the concept of a “stylized fact” and argues for using a “stylized empirical cycle.” A short overview of the chapters, that all comply with the demands formulated here, is given.
