ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses men’s experiences of forced marriage based on a narrative study of five men with experiences of forced marriage. The rationale for conducting the study is that relatively little is known about the process of forced marriage for male victims, the impact of forced marriage on men and men’s coping mechanisms. The vast majority of victims of early and forced marriage globally are women. Forced marriage disproportionally affects girls and young women, and Y. Samad argues that policy responses largely have girls and young women at the forefront of their interventions. The chapter aims to investigate men’s experiences of forced marriage, explores the impact of forced marriage, and identifies coping mechanisms. The men in the sample were largely talking about experiences that occurred before forced marriage was recognised by the state and many non-black and minority ethnic community organisations.
