ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses standard forms of building contract issued by other bodies, such as the Association of Consultant Architects, the Royal Institute of British Architects, and the Institution of Civil Engineers, and focuses on those contracts which are more commonly used and have become prevalent in the market. When launched, PPC2000 was unusual in being the first standard form multi-party partnering contract intended to cover the entire procurement process. Where the parties agree on a traditional procurement route, it is usual for the architect to act as the Lead Designer. However, where the contract is procured on a design and build basis and parties have elected in the Partnering Agreement for the Constructor to be the single point of responsibility to the Client for design and construction, there is potential for the Constructor to accept design responsibility for a design process where he has potentially restricted input.
