ABSTRACT

Management is a creative activity, the exercise of which is about making and maintaining dynamic cultures within and by which the objectives of people as individuals, teams, and organisations are achieved. The manager of an architectural business is concerned with three types of relationship: between the owners of the business and their clients, between employer and employee, and between the owners of the business themselves. The law of partnership is governed by the Partnership Act 1890. Section numbers in the text which follows are from the 1890 Act. Unless otherwise specified in a partnership agreement, the provisions of the Partnership Act will apply. Considerable importance may be attached to the existence of a partnership. For example, if two architects work together occasionally over several years, and a case of negligence arises, both may be liable if a partnership exists, even if only one of them has been negligent.
