ABSTRACT

Football is the world’s most played and viewed sport. Due to its immense popularity, there are many studies in general on football but not much linking it with entrepreneurship. This is surprising given the various ways football is entrepreneurial including the way it is broadcast and consumed. The aim of this chapter is to provide an overview of what football entrepreneurship is. To do this, a summary of the different kinds of football is stated that helps to understand the regional variations of how football is played. The role of entrepreneurship in sport is discussed that enables a further integration of the entrepreneurship and football literature. The importance of football entrepreneurship for practice is then identified and tips for football entrepreneurs are stated.
