ABSTRACT

Football is a popular topic to study due to its practical relevance in the global economy. Despite its popularity, there is limited written work in the academic literature about its linkage with entrepreneurship. This might be due to the implied nature of sport being entrepreneurial and football being one of the world’s most watched and played sport. Moreover, the continued need to increase performance and increase a team’s winning percentage means that entrepreneurial strategies are needed. The aim of this chapter is to focus on new research directions related to football entrepreneurship. It is hoped that this will open up people’s thinking about the need to study and practice football from an entrepreneurship standpoint. Suggestions for how football can be linked to different forms of entrepreneurship such as academic, community, social and technological are explained.
