ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the one philanthropic education organisation, Ark, describing its international work and its support for Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) in India and South Africa. It aims to expand the analysis forward and shows how philathrocapitalist organisations have started to play a key role in the dissemination of a model of public private partnership schools around the world. The chapter discusses the delineate Ark's work, in partnership with other local and international philanthropic organisations, to promote, facilitate, and enable the development of edu-PPPs through advocacy and partnerships with municipal governments in India. The selection of collaboration schools for the partnership with Ark was focused, according to a newspaper report on the initiative, 'where we believe our efforts will have maximum benefit on no-fee schools serving poorer communities'. The examples of Ark at work in India and South Africa, raise these questions.
