ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to review the literature on career interest from multiple theoretical frameworks and research traditions. Specifically, the aim of this chapter is to synthesize research on the nature of the construct interest and measurement of interest to inform the development of interest measures that can be applied to Navy games. In addition, methods to increase interests are also reviewed. There are four main literatures that document the research study of interest: military psychology, vocational psychology, motivation, and games. This review will conclude with a discussion of constructs related to interest such as self-efficacy and recommendations for game-based measurement of interest.
