ABSTRACT
Insurance companies, payer sources, and claims adjusters will use legal nurse consultants (LNCs) to assist with claims involving medical issues. Simply stated, these claims typically involve an injury and an allegation that the party responsible for that injury did not use reasonable care to prevent the injury. By providing a thorough, objective analysis of the medical records and medical issues in the context of the alleged incident and injuries, LNCs can help insurance companies reach fair and equitable settlements of claims. This may involve the denial or defense of claims with questionable or unsubstantiated injuries or treatment.
