ABSTRACT

Independent legal nurse consultant (LNC) work can be very interesting, challenging, and rewarding. The role offers many options for the LNC attracted to diversity or a niche area of practice. The independent LNC also has the option to work as a business owner, contractor, and/or as a subcontractor. The LNC that chooses to be an entrepreneur must consider if they have the skill set to be able to provide both quality LNC work, and run and maintain a business. Although the LNC may be an excellent nurse they may not be a good business person. The creation and implementation of a strong business plan is crucial to a good outcome, but the LNC must also consider their ability to market themselves and their business, network with other business professionals, and afford the time and money to follow this plan. While starting and maintaining a business can be very intimidating, there are many other business professionals and resources available for the LNC entrepreneur to gain knowledge which can lead to a thriving business.
