ABSTRACT

Trial preparation and the trial are the culmination of years of effort by the legal team to develop and present a case. The legal nurse consultant (LNC) assists the trial team in bringing the client’s thoroughly prepared and well-organized story to the jury. The LNC’s contributions begin pre-trial with strategizing with the trial team, preparing reports and exhibits, organizing binders and notebooks, working with witnesses, conducting research, being versed on the experts’ opinions, and overseeing the preparation of the trial box. During the trial, the LNC assists with voir dire, identifies testimonial discrepancies, evaluates witnesses, maintains exhibits, manages the audiovisual equipment, orders and reviews transcripts, takes detailed trial notes, participates in ongoing trial analysis and strategy, anticipates the attorney’s needs, and assists with any number of other tasks. After the trial, the LNC may be involved with conducting jury interviews and assisting with post-trial motions and appeals.
