ABSTRACT
In this chapter I consider the challenge to decenter beauty studies as a way of exploring the complex relationship between the experience of beauty and internalized oppression and resistance for Indigenous and Mestiza women. Opening a conversation with Black anti-racist feminists, I draw on Mestiza and Indigenous women’s experiences in Mexico to discuss the unstable balance of dealing with racism and sexism in relation to beauty with contexts where ideas of racial mixture organize everyday life.
