ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the Brexit impact on the European Union (EU)-27 economies, with a special focus on Poland’s position in the ranking of potential losers resulting from the Brexit process. It identifies and assesses the consequences of Brexit within the Common Market rules perspective. The chapter explores the ongoing debate on the European disintegration process and establishes Poland’s place among other European countries. The relationship between Poland and the United Kingdom (UK) is long-lasting, solid, and multidimensional. The relatively large trade surplus makes Poland more dependent on export to the UK than on import from the UK. The financial dimension of the Poland-UK relationship can be perceived from the EU budget perspective. The story of Brexit and the vulnerability of UK’s economic partners to Brexit highlight to some extend Rodrik’s trilemma, i.e. the impossibility theorem for the global economy.
