ABSTRACT

Questions of moral education (such as inculcation of virtue or a sense of duty that assists the development of a moral sense) as well as questions about citizenship education are woven into the narrative of this book. This book focuses on topics related to political education and treads the blurred line between political and moral education through a long list of sub-themes—covering issues of political theory such as freedom, toleration and paternalism. Some examine relevant epistemological issues such as attitudes of certainty and uncertainty, disciplinary knowledge, epistemic virtues and vices, and critical realism as an aid to interpreting disciplinary knowledge. Yet others deal with specific educational issues such as the potential of a pedagogy of care, dialogue as an antidote to violence, dialogue as a means of inclusion and voluntary expression.
