ABSTRACT

Given the strategic significance of India’s Northeast region (Northeast India), India aims to make this region as a pivot for its connectivity to the rest of Asia Pacific by bridging the missing link via Myanmar. Regional connectivity and creating a development corridor has been the prime reason for initiating the connectivity projects in Northeast India. These projects are expected to boost trade and investment in the four states of the Northeast region that share border with Myanmar. Nevertheless, there remain critical concerns which have been decisive in making these two countries with shared borders as ‘distant neighbours’. In this context, the chapter argues for addressing the structural and systemic barriers coming in the way of connecting the missing links between the shared borders of the two countries.
