ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 discusses innovation in Norway. Norway is a small, old country. It is highly influenced by nature as the basic ecosystem. Yet it is still very high performing in the digital age. It is ranked third globally among the top-ranked countries for National Sustainable Intellectual Capital (SNIC). The keys seems to be, among others, ICT and open innovation.

The chapter describes two innovative cases of very progressive Norwegian companies. One is Aker BioMarine. A forward-looking spin-off from a traditional big marine enterprise. It is also a founding member of the Open Innovation Lab of Norway. The other case is Agder Energy. This is an old national power operator that is applying cloud computing in a progressive way. Both of these cases have been recognized among the most innovative companies in Norway. The author presents interesting insights and conclusions for the dawn of the age of digital innovation and intellectual capital.
