ABSTRACT

The battle for control of the global economy in the 21st century, will be won and lost over control of innovation technologies. Looking at the position of National Intellectual Capital and the ranking of nations provides a deeper position. Since 2013 Bloomberg has been publishing annually the list of the 10 Most Innovative Economies, based on seven equally weighted metrics – initially analysed for more than 200 countries and ranking 60 countries. In the 2019 edition, it analyses the medical innovation landscape of the next decade, looking at how technological and non-technological medical innovation will transform the delivery of healthcare worldwide. It also explores the role and dynamics of medical innovation as it shapes the future of healthcare, and the potential influence this may have on economic growth. In the digital economy such ranking might indicate, especially, shifts in position and a valuable basis for IC policy development.
