ABSTRACT

The supervisee’s contribution and role within supervision is central to successful supervision. Despite the centrality of the supervisees’ role, the literature and research regarding the supervisee’s learning journey within and through supervision is sparse. This chapter discusses the role of the supervisee within supervision and considers how supervisees understand, use, and participate in supervision across their career. It also explores how supervisees learn and develop as social workers through supervision. The chapter concludes by proposing an emergent conceptual map of the supervisee’s learning journey within the supervisee role which also relates to their learning journey through supervision as a social work practitioner.
