ABSTRACT
Non-profit organizations can become practitioners in industrial creation and regional revitalisation through a new, hybrid management form, which partners the non-profits with cooperatives, corporations and local authorities. This community-based cooperative corporation (CBCC) can achieve sustainable development goals by signalling a change in traditional energy production. The chapter looks at a wind power energy project that grew out of the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear crisis in Japan, as citizens in rural and urban areas looked to the development of a future, with renewable energy and sustainable industry. Green Fund Akita is a cooperative corporation involved in Yumekaze, a wind power generation and sales project. Through a partnership with four major cooperatives in urban areas and a local municipality, it has been able to supply renewable energy and other goods and services to members and general customers. This hybrid governance is a new entity, giving an NPO and its partners a flexible mechanism which has led to sustainable success of the equal collaboration between the values and systems.
