ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the principal characteristics of projects. Project organizations tend to be complex, involving not only the main contractor, but many subcontractors and suppliers, providers of funds and possibly a financial guarantor. Manufacturing projects include everything from micro-technology and the computing sciences to heavy engineering and shipbuilding. The Association produces an online monthly magazine: The Association of Controls Management and offers a range of project controls training opportunities for its members. A tiered accreditation process is provided for project control practitioners, who must be full members of the Association. This is underpinned by National Occupational Standards in project controls, estimating, planning and scheduling and cost engineering. Planning Planet is the online community of project control people. It includes cost engineers, forensic planners, planners, schedulers and quantity surveyors from the largest project delivery organizations across all industries from oil and gas to transport, civil engineering, construction, pharmaceuticals and many more.
