ABSTRACT

The association for project management has a number of special interest groups who meet regularly and that is a more conventional and structured way in which those involved in project management can benefit from their shared experiences and form communities of practice. However, organizations should always ensure that their managers (including those responsible for project controls) are given the best possible opportunities to increase their practical knowledge and enhance their performance. Benchmarking requires that a company compares its performance with other companies operating in their same business sector. Where other companies appear to be performing better, that is a clear indication that the organization under review needs to take action and improve. Performance ratio results that might be considered acceptable in one industrial sector could be regarded as awful in other. So comparisons have to be made within the same business sector to be of any use.
