ABSTRACT

Books and articles on Africana Womanism have been translated into Greek and Portuguese and its longevity is, indeed, promising. From Africa to Europe and to America, scholars have embraced the global theory of Africana Womanism. Africana-Melanated Womanism, rooted in blackness, reflects the persuasion of many diverse women, who have found the Africana Womanism theory more compatible with their level of existence. The key to the true meaning of Africana Womanism is its mandate for inclusion of the whole family, men included, while highlighting also the very presence and role of the Africana Womanist in concert with her male companion in the ongoing cooperative struggle against racial dominance. Echoing the essence of Africana Womanism, the editors of Call and Response assert that Africana Womanism, and by extension the Africana Womanist, is a black woman activist who is family centered rather than female centered and who focuses on race and class empowerment before gender empowerment.
