ABSTRACT

Typically, sports journalism tends to follow the idea that sports and politics are separate entities, but what happens when a political regime suddenly dictates new political ideals for sports and sports journalism? This study shows that in the case of Nazi Germany, sports journalism shows remarkably few signs of the strong political control. Rather than a sign of resistance, the study suggests that the regime decided the sporting press would be more valuable as a sign of normality in a time of war than as a form of explicit political expression.
