ABSTRACT
The Negev desert will become the scene of rapid development in the coming years. Ideology has had a substantial impact on the evolution of the urban and economic spatial system in the Negev desert. A new element of spatial order has come into being in the Negev which is not unlike S. Ghosh’s Regiopolis concept for Indian Urban Centre Networks. The intensive and independent commuting pattern which has developed is an important factor determining the way in which the Negev urban system functions as an integrated unit. The existence of an integrated system of urban and economic activities should be taken into consideration in the future development of the Negev, any significant change by the army will have an immediate impact on each subset in the system and on the system as a whole.
