ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects on the practice of making and trading zines as a research method. It reflects on the author’s research into zines as a form of life writing, undertaken in Australia between 2002 and 2006. The chapter considers the importance of communicating scholarly research to non-scholarly audiences, how the feminist methodology of situated knowledges can be applied in the study of contemporary life writing, and the importance of inventive, and ethical, approaches to research methods in literary studies.
